Dragons exhibit shown at Worpex 2004 wins prizes

The Dragons thematic display was exhibited in Essen as expected.

It achieved fifth overall in the competition and was third overall in the Wildlife section.

A note from one of our regular contributors, who writes under the not too original pseudonym 'ANON', should be interesting for members of the Society, so we publish it verbatim:

It has come to my notice - I am somewhat of a nosey parker - that one of the members of the Worcester Society (no I cannot possibly type out the full name having done so once already), will be competing in the International Competition at Stampex in September 2004. 'Our man' is entering five frames of his material entitled "The Postal Concession" and hopes to achieve a medal of sufficient importance to enable him to enter eight frames at Washington 2006. He achieved a small silver-gilt (vermeil) with four frames at Stampex 2000. We wish him luck". ANON.

Another piece of 'hot' news which concerns members of the Worcester Society is that for the very first time the Three Counties Philatelic Federation is entering the ABPS: AEPS - National Competitive Exhibition Inter-Federation which will take place at Basildon in November 2004. This has apparently become a well established feature of the ABPS biennial National Stamp Exhibition and our Federation has taken upon itself to enter despite the fact that papers only arrived during what we normally regard as the closed season for philately.

The competition rules state that a Federation must enter three different classes with two frames (32 sheets) of material from three different individuals. Because there was insufficient time to allow for prior competition within the Federation, the President appointed John Hodges, newly elected President of the Worcester Society, to contact likely philatelists who could produce the necessary entries at short notice. In order to obtain material of the highest standard John approached recent past winners of competitions for Worcester's Mike Young Trophy. As a result, the entry on behalf of the Federation will consist of:

  • Thematic Class - The Gloucestershire Society is represented by an entry Women in Politics
  • Postal History Class - The Redditch Society provides Mileage marks of Worcestershire
  • Postal Stationery Class - Worcester Society with Swiss Postal Stationery Cards
