Society News - March 2005

It seems like much less than twelve months since I last ventured to pen a piece for the WORPEX programme; another successful fair passed away peacefully with very little recriminations from either dealers, membership or committee, so let's hope we learned something from the exercise.

Visitors to this year's WORPEX may have noticed new signage from Ombersley to enable visitors approaching from the north to cross the River Severn at Holt rather than having to use Junction 7 and cross the river using the southern by-pass. If you didn't notice, it must surely be because you came from the south or the east of Worcester. We have had many favourable comments in the past concerning our signage so now the northern route is covered as well as the southern. From the point of view of the Society these signs are an investment for the future just as are previously purchased signs and the acquisition of the Stampex frames

As a Society we are starting a library when most other societies seem to be closing theirs - are we doing the right thing? Although it's not yet up and running, I'm quite sure donations of books would be most welcome; no doubt we shall do better in the Mortimer Quiz Competition as a result! A library is of course pointless unless it is used.

During the year we have updated the rules of our club competitions to come into line with those of the Mike Young Memorial Trophy and hopefully we shall be seeing more of our members competing at Stampex in the future as a result..

Whilst membership numbers are not rising as quickly as they have in the recent past, it is still a very healthy picture and our meetings are as vibrant and friendly as they have been for some time. Work goes on behind the scenes in many areas but for the future it remains good to see positive results emerging from the efforts that go in to encouraging children to partici[pate.

All in all another good year for the Society and very good wishes for another successful WORPEX.
