The Society originated in 1954 when a stamp club was formed by local philatelists including Frank Holland (of Alcock & Holland fame) and Nellie Gould, two local school teachers. Miss Gould was the first teacher in the country who introduced stamps into schools for educational purposes. She was also a regular contributor to Gibbons Stamp Monthly. Another member was lan Crickmer who kept a prominent position until his untimely death in 1997. In 1967 the Club regrouped, reformed and was renamed as the Worcester and District Stamp Club. In 1974 we became the Worcester & District Philatelic Society and in 1999 then name changed again to become the Worcester & District Philatelic and Postcard Society, thus reflecting members' growing interest in postcards. Over the past two years there has been considerable discussion concerning the Society's name. This reflected the interests of Members and that Membership was spread throughout the Worcester area. The title Worcester & District Philatelic and Postcard Society
had become unwieldy. Affiliated to A.B.P.S., Midlands & Three Counties FederationsMeetings are held on alternate Thursdays7.00 pm for 7.30 pm Click here for a map2008 programme |
